Thinking of Getting Your Brows Microbladed? My Experience and What you can Expect – Mama 'N Chief

Thinking of Getting Your Brows Microbladed? My Experience and What you can Expect

Getting a face tattoo, is not really the average persons’ idea of a good time unless it is some type of cosmetic goodness that will save you time and enhance your beauty. Insert microblading. Semi-permanent eyebrows tattoos that can typically last up to 3 years have been all the rage. I have been raging too but from the sidelines because I was really apprehensive about something that can last that long being on my face. I have seen some unsavory Microbladed brows over the past few years. Some have been too blocky, oddly shaped, or disproportioned to the person’s face. So what is Microblading exactly? It’s when a technician uses a special tool to make tiny cuts in the skin, The technician then inserts pigment into the skin, which creates the appearance of eyebrow hairs.

I did a tremendous amount of stalking on Instagram before I finally booked and paid a deposit. Social media is really the gift and the curse as it pertains to finding services. It’s really helpful in that, you can visually see the individual’s work. However, it also closes people off from actual interaction, like a phone call before you decide to book. Many people in the beauty field ask that you book directly from their site and don’t offer a phone number. What I’ve learned is sometimes you have to also feel out someone’s temperament, attitude and personality before they start working on your face and your body. Unfortunately, some of the best make-up artists, aestheticians, and beauticians have the absolute worst attitude and that doesn’t make for a pleasant experience overall.

Fortunately for me, the young lady who I chose to do my ombre brows, which require less frequent touch-ups than Microblading and is ideal for people with oily skin like myself, was both pleasant and professional. She works out of a very posh shop in Atlanta, Georgia, and I have to say, location doesn’t make the person better at what they do but it definitely adds to the experience.

Before we began, I showed her a few pictures from her Instagram that I really liked, so we could pinpoint a shape and I chose a brow color. She then started off by cleansing my brow area and then cleaning up the shape with a razor. Next, she drew on eyebrows and though I asked her to tweak them a few times until it was to my satisfaction, she was very patient and paid attention to my requests. Once the brow shape was good to go, she added numbing cream and began the procedure.

Before

The needling process didn’t really hurt but it was unpleasant. Kind of a hurry and finish already discomfort but bearable enough for me to fall asleep here and there. When she was done, I was truly floored. My brows looked so good! She gave me some after-care instructions and how to care for them on that day if any fluid were to leak out. The fluid can be blood or pus but that didn’t really occur after I left. The total process took about 2 hours.

The after

Over the next 2-3 days, those brows were popping honey. There’s something to be said about waking up and looking “done.” I adhered to her instructions about not getting them wet, washing my face in the shower, or applying makeup and lotions.  Around days 3-4, they scabbed over and were really dark. I called them the doom brows.

Also because I wasn’t moisturizing near the brows, the skin right above and below became very dry and flaky. After 4 days, I started applying the ointment she gave me which basically consists of  Vitamin A and D. The ointment helps to break up the scabbing but she told me not to rush the process but pulling the scabs off because that could also take off the pigment and cause light spots.

Day 9

Trying to keep soap and water off the brows.

The after-care card she gave me after the procedure was very helpful to me to understand what stage of the process I was in and remaining calm throughout. Your brows will look bad before they go back to looking good.

I followed her care instructions very carefully but there were times when the scab would be just hanging off and I had to snatch it off. I’m trying to look fabulous but I can’t be out here looking crazy in these streets either. Overall, the process wasn’t bad at all. My brows are now fully healed and I will get the recommended 6-week touch-up in 3 weeks.

I say, if you’re willing to splurge on yourself, it’s definitely worth it when you find the right person to do it. Make sure you do your research! This is your face after all. I would also recommend that you do it when you have 7-10 days to just chill and don’t have to be out and about or in a professional setting. Nothing says good morning boss like a scab hanging from your eyebrow!
