The One Thing That Will Instantly Elevate Your Bathroom’s Decor – Mama 'N Chief

The One Thing That Will Instantly Elevate Your Bathroom’s Decor

When I was building my house, I would agonize over finishing decisions. In some cases, if your choice wasn’t what you thought it would be once painted or installed, it was an easy fix. Other times, not so much. The one thing that gave me the most angst was choosing bathroom mirrors and that may be one of the easiest things to fix but for the small nails, my builder put in the mirror itself, to really lock them in place.
Lucky for me though, 3 years later I’m still satisfied with my mirror choices and how they complement each bathroom. Needless to say, it’s mirrors! Decorative mirrors are the one thing that will instantly elevate your bathroom style! It’s no longer necessary to have a blank piece of glass on your bathroom wall, with no flair. You can basically choose any mirror you like and have it hung over your vanity.

I actually wanted the mirrors in my master bathroom, to be longer but as you can see the light switch posed a problem, so I chose something that would just be centered over the vanity. I really liked how this mirror added texture to the wall.

When I speak of mirrors, I actually do mean the ones to be hung on the wall but there’s a certain pizazz that mirrored items and accents on your vanity and around the bathroom, can add as well.

I have to say, that my absolute favorite mirrors in my house, are in my son’s bathroom. These wood and metal alphabet mirrors, paired with the cage lighting, really gave his bathroom an industrial masculine feel, while still being suitable for a little boy. Seeing as how we moved into our home when he was 3 and he is about to turn 7, I don’t know how long my sweet little mirrors and dinosaur hardware will be “cool” but I’m willing to keep them for as long as he’ll allow.

I like to refer to my 1/2 bath as the “pretty woman” bathroom. The wall color gives it a macho man vibe but that dainty mirror screams, no sir, “I’m a lady!” It’s really just so charming, that I couldn’t pass it up, even though I wanted a long mirror in this space as well.

Some of our newer bathrooms were just recently put in, in our basement. I was finally able to get the full-length mirror that I had been seeking for the other bathrooms in the home. Here’s a tip if you have a 2 piece (sink and toilet,) on one wall. Buy a mirror that is long enough to go over both, like pictured below. This will make your bathroom look larger. You can also install a shelf that runs the full length of the wall as well. I purchased this mirror in December from Kirklands for $80, however, I no longer see it on their website. I couldn’t be more pleased with the look of this basement bathroom.

In 2020, my Mom moved in with us and we created a basement apartment for her, that turned out beautifully! She requested a medicine cabinet style mirror, which initially made me cringe. I had memories of those plain and sterile-looking medicine cabinets, we had when I was growing up. However, when we spoke with Wayne, our cabinet guy, he assured us that he would make it work and flow. He did just that. The cabinet is a great functional space with more shelving than she can even reach! However, as you can see she’s already got her belongings locked and loaded in there, even though she hasn’t officially moved into the space.

I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to settle for whatever mirror your builder includes. Building a custom home taught me that you can be in control of all your finishings. Now I won’t say it’s always easy and definitely isn’t always cheap but it’s always worth it when your home looks exactly how you want it to!
