Our Green Smoothie Brunch
Jermaine and I are on day 8 of our 10 day green smoothie cleanse and I have to say, it has become much easier for him. He does still come roaming through the kitchen at times, looking for “something else” to eat but he’s seemingly more content with just having a snack from the approved snack list. Although, I have refrained from getting on the scale for 30 days, I can see the weight loss in the both us and really see an increase in my energy.
The hardest part about dieting or starting a new eating regimen is that it can throw a major monkey wrench in your social life. I mean sure there are a variety of things you can do as a couple and/or with friends but ultimately for us, all roads eventually lead to eating (I mean good mouth-watering, buttery, succulent, sometimes sugary, delicious food) and drinking (and I don’t mean no dag on water).
When my friend Cindy, texted me about brunch, bright and early on Saturday morning, I was reminded of our previous brunch sessions, the most recent being in a tiny cramped cafe with, old tables, rickety chairs, a long wait and lots of noise. I reflected on the delicious food and had thoughts of the french toast I ordered, made with thick challah bread and slathered with sweet butter which was a far cry from the apple and boiled egg I was having at that moment. What I remembered most though, was the amazing conversation between Cindy, her husband Larry, Jermaine and I, and how though we could sit and chat for hours, we are always eventually booted from restaurants, looking to give our table to others that may be waiting.
When I told Cindy that we were on a smoothie cleanse, she replied, “I’m always down for a smoothie.” Which got me to thinking, that maybe I should put them on a green smoothie diet for a day and have a smoothie brunch!
Anyone who knows me knows when I put together a shindig, it’s going to be a little extra and over the top and will likely have a theme. When I told Jermaine that we were having brunch at our home on Sunday, he immediately raised an eyebrow and asked, “how are we having a brunch here tomorrow and we’re still on this cleanse?” To which I replied, “issa green smoothie brunch, boop!” (snaps fingers in the air like Nene.)
Issa green smoothie brunch, boop!
For our menu, I put together some of the things that we have been eating on our diet.
- Boiled Eggs
- Spiralized Cucumber Apple Salad w/oil and vinegar vinaigrette
- Nuts
- Fruit Tray
- Signature Green Smoothie
- Infused Water
- Orange Juice and Wine (For those who weren’t really doing this damn cleanse)
- Tea Station
Before going to bed Saturday night, I started to become concerned that although the idea was cute, I might be starving my friends, so I texted Cindy and told her to bring her waffle maker and I would make them waffles as well, so they wouldn’t be hungry but she said they would be just fine. I’m telling you right now, if you don’t have friends that will get down in the trenches with you and come out of their comfort zone to meet you where you are, they’re not real friends.
Needless to say, our Issa Green Smoothie Brunch, went off without a hitch and our signature green smoothie was a hit!
The wine and orange juice we brought for them remained untouched so now I’m left to stare at them in my refrigerator, especially the wine. The wine. Wiiiiiiiine. But I digress. Ultimately, Larry and Cindy were at our home for over 6 hours. Only about 30 minutes of that time was eating, primarily because there wasn’t a whole lot to chew on. However, we were then left to do what we do best, talk, laugh and enjoy the fellowship of friendship.
What are some fun unorthodox ways you and your spouse have spent time with friends?

I was hungry that day. I should say every day since we started the cleanse. I tried to get some wine and OJ but got caught by the wife. Lost 8lbs since we started so I am happy about that.
