Make Your Child’s Artwork Pop, With These Simple Dollar Store Finds! – Mama 'N Chief

Make Your Child’s Artwork Pop, With These Simple Dollar Store Finds!

Happy Monday friends! I hope the weekend has left you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. This weekend, I found myself doing yet another simple DIY. This one, I wouldn’t even call a true DIY but more of innovative thinking. Like most parents, during the school year our house became flooded with all of the paperwork, projects and drawings that the littles bring home. Last year, during Chiefton’s kindergarten year, he probably brought home a new drawing 3-4 times per week. Now let me go ahead and declare this a judgement free zone,  before I say this but many of these things went in the trash can.  Some of his drawings, were literally scribble scrabble however, there were some that I thought were really good, that I would hang in my craft room, just so he knows that I appreciate the work he does in school.
I really wanted to frame some of his pieces and hang them in his room. While I was in Family Dollar last week, I saw that they sold mattes, so I picked up a few, in addition to some frames and got to work.

Supplies

-2 11×14 Frames from Family Dollar

-2 8×10 mattes for frames from Family Dollar

-Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Spray Paint, in Nantucket Blue

-3M Command Hanging Strips

I chose my favorite pieces from my little Picasso and ensured they would fit nicely within the matte and the frame.

I removed the frames from the backing and spray painted them. I really liked this spray paint because it gave full coverage in one coat. I allowed the frames to dry over night.

I placed the command strips on the wall and allowed them to set. I can’t stress the importance of allowing at least one hour for the strips to adhere to the wall before adding what you’re  hanging to the command hooks and strips.  Prepping your wall by wiping it down with alcohol, prior to adding the strips,  is equally important. I have had many a project come crashing down, so take heed.

After reassembling the pictures within the frames, I was able to simply press them onto the wall, in his play room. Super simple and our little artist was thrilled that his artwork is now part of the decor!
