DIY Embellished Sandals – Mama 'N Chief

DIY Embellished Sandals

Don’t ask me where I think I’m going in these sandals, that I’ve spent hours embellishing because the answer will likely be nowhere, at least not any time soon. I’ve recently had foot surgery that will probably keep me restricted to flats for the summer months but what I have been afforded is lots of time to do fun projects like this.

In my quest to find pretty FLAT sandals for summer, I came across many shoes that were jeweled, high heeled and expensive but I loved them!

Now even though the girl loves a good shoe darling, not working while recovering from foot surgery and having a new home, that still has rooms to furnish, has put my shoe fetish on hold. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t fake it until I make it by buying less expensive shoes or revamping old ones. For this project, I used these Merona sandals that I purchased from Target last year, acrylic iridescent gems and E6000 glue from Michaels. I used the white version of the glue but I added a link to the clear version, which I think will work better, especially since the white glue left some residue on the back of the shoe. That probably won’t be much of a big deal when they’re on my feet but the photos may show it.

I wanted the shoes to compliment each other but also have their own flair so I added different shaped stones to the front and back but followed the same pattern. I used my fingers to place the stones but you can also use a sewing pin with a smidge of glue on the tip to secure them in place. Then you’ll just need to wipe off any glue residue before it dries.

I actually think they came out great and could be comparable to these high-end shoes that throw a few gems on them and charge $1000 but that’s my humble opinion. If you like the style but have no interest in gluing stones, I found this inexpensive pair on Amazon:

However,  if you want to give it a shot and try on your own, perhaps with some lighter stones for a different look, shop this shoe for under $15 at Amazon and the clear iridescent gems:

What are your thoughts on the shoes? Yay or nay?

I love it! No wait! I LOVE IT! Oooh sparkly! Such a clever way to restyle a pair of sandals. I liked how you didn’t make them identical. Must try this.
