HydraFacial; Why I Wasn’t a fan but I’d do it Again – Mama 'N Chief

HydraFacial; Why I Wasn’t a fan but I’d do it Again

Earlier this week I decided to treat myself to a post Mother’s Day, spa day at Salt Med Spa in Peachtree City, Georgia. While this spa is small and quaint, I really appreciate the services it offers which include Halotherapy. Halotherapy is an alternative medicine that helps to relieve a host of ailments by spending allotted time breathing in salty air in man-made “salt caves.” These rooms are covered from top to bottom and wall to wall with sea salt and a grainer salt used as the ground. It’s almost as though you’re walking in a sandpit but it’s salt.

Although I have tried halotherapy in the past, it wasn’t on the itinerary for my spa day. I started with the not-so-pleasant Brazilian wax, then onto the sauna for 30 minutes before getting a massage and lastly the HydraFacial. Surprisingly, this would be my first time ever getting a professional facial. For many years I did not take very good care of my skin, nor did I have much of a regimen. However, as I’ve gotten older, I realized how important it is to take care of your skin, so needless to say, I was pretty excited about the HydraFacial.

So what’s a Hydrafacial? Your esthetician or clinician, will use a medical-grade hydradermabrasion tool, to perform what I learned is a patented 3 part system, cleansing, exfoliating, and infusing the skin with serums and in that order! Now I can tell you right now, when I booked this HydraFacial, I neglected to read the fine print. I missed the DERMABRASION part. While water is used to moisture and protect the skin, the roughness of the tool does not a relaxing facial make.

I was pretty much on pins and needles the entire time because it was uncomfortable. It’s akin to some truly hardcore exfoliating.  Now here I am thinking that I had saved the most relaxing part of my spa day for the end but in reality, it was as though sandpaper was being run across my face.  I also have sensitive skin so I knew, that when she was done, I’d probably have welts all over my face.

It was over in about 20 minutes and I asked Rita, my esthetician, if I had welts, to which she said no and gave me a mirror to check it out myself. Not only were there no welts but my skin was on GLOW!

It looked really clear and well hydrated. She then showed me the gunk that had been “vacuumed”  off of my face, especially around the nose area.  There was a lot of oil that was removed, which explained why the water was so murky. Eww, gag but it made me realize that I probably need to do these more often, maybe once a month.

I stand by the fact that for me, it wasn’t a relaxing experience but it’s also not the worst thing you’ll ever go through either. Add it up there with that Brazilian and essentially it’s just another necessary evil.

It’s been 2 days and though the ghastly pimple I have on my chin is still not ready to exit stage left, the gorgeous glow remains. I would definitely recommend that you get this but don’t be like me, save the relaxing massage for the end as a proper send-off!
