A Week of New Beginnings

The first step in any journey is simply to begin. This week will be filled for new beginnings for my family and I. It’s time to go back to school! However this year, Chief won’t be the only student hitting the books in our household.
While Chief will be going to first grade, I will be starting 17th grade also known as graduate school.

We are all a bit nervous and apprehensive about this upcoming school year. Chiefton will be going to school virtually and I have been drinking wine , finding ways to make this transition easy and productive

I have transformed an area in his playroom to be a functional and interactive learning space, that I’ll reveal later this week. Jermaine and I are hoping to make this new way of learning as seamless as possible for him.

While I will primarily be taking care of Chiefton’s school work because Jermaine works from home during the day, Monday’s and Wednesday’s Daddy will be taking the wheel because Mama will have her own schooling to tend to!

I will be beginning my coursework to earn a Masters Degree in Digital Marketing. To prepare for returning to school, after earning my Bachelor’s Degree almost twenty years ago, I have been drinking wine, mentally preparing and really trying to plan ahead and get organized.

Though I did opt for face to face instruction, two out of my three classes will be fully or partially virtual due to social distancing concerns. While, I can understand the change, it does make me apprehensive because I know that I thrive in an instructor lead environment.

However, I’m keeping an open mind and heart about the schooling experience for both Chief and I. It’s not lost on me that our family as a whole, is truly blessed to be able to take advantage of these opportunities, without it being a major financial strain or uprooting our ability to work. My job offered an eighteen month leave and I took advantage of that to facilitate schooling for Chief and to start this graduate school journey that I’ve been putting off for years.

In addition to our new school experiences and our two renovation projects that are taking place simultaneously in our home, I have also decided to take control of my weight and overall health. I’m someone who recycles the same fifteen pounds every quarter and I’d really like them to be gone for good. This week I’ll be staring another 10 day green smoothie cleanse and after that, really focusing on the way in which I eat and exercise.

With that being said, let me go eat my last leftover cupcake with one more glass of wine before I get started. (Did you laugh? I’m laughing because I’m serious.)

I hope you have a great week and to all my Mama’s and Dad’s, I know this is a trying time for us all but please know that no decision you make regarding your child’s schooling is incorrect. We are all doing the best we can!  Drink wine when necessary but stay sober enough to do this ghastly new math.
