Here’s The Tea, Add The Lime…
My Mother is a tea drinker. Every morning she has her large mug filled with tea, one slice of lemon. Most of us become our mothers as we get older. Adapting their ways, habits and adages. That’s why even though I love my coffee, I find comfort with a cup of tea. Most days when I’m working as a flight attendant and the beverage service is complete, if there’s time, I make myself a cup of tea. The airline I work for only serves lime, so I’ve become quite smitten with my tea with lime. Even though I don’t smoke, I think of it as my cigarette, if you will. A calming force when dealing with hundreds of people a day, some of which I’d like to dunk in my hot tea. Not to drown but maybe to submerge for a few moments until they too, feel calm. Ah but alas, I’ve touched on flight attendant passenger woes in another post, so I digress.
Back to my tea with lime. My husband and I have set our sights on building our dream home. A feat that will require a little bit of blood, a little bit of sweat and a lotta bit of tears. A custom built home on almost two acres. We have done a great job at saving for the home we want. The bank has essentially told us, “this is a stick up! Give us all your cash and your little dog too!” We don’t really have a dog but if we did, they’d want it. Yep, everything we’ve saved less our dyer emergency fund goes to them. I had to have tea with lime upon hearing that news and that wasn’t even the kicker. The astronomical closing costs will not be included in the life savings they’re yanking from out tightly clenched hands. More tea please. Put it in a mason jar and just cut the entire lime in half. Thanks.
Yet and still we are moving forward. Everything worth having comes with work, sacrifice and commitment. This is our dream home. As a military wife, we’ve moved so many times over the years that our child has yet to have home stability in his life. As I’m working countless hours on numerous flights with full loads of sometimes not so happy people, I’m continuously thinking of summer 2017, when I’ll sip my tea with lime by the fireplace in my keeping room just off the kitchen.
Are you a coffee, tea, or me kind of person?
