Farmhouse Fresh – Mama 'N Chief

I’ll admit it. I like cool stuff. Gadgets and things that make people ooh and ahhh because they’ve never seen it before, make me happy. I’m not the first to have a Nintendo Switch TV cabinet. In fact, I got the idea and the build plan from Pinterest. However, it doesn’t make it less innovative and interesting right? When I came across this find on Pinterest, I had no interest in making it myself. We were in the middle of our basement remodel and I took the idea to my cabinet builder Wayne of True Custom by Wayne. He was quite skeptical, to say the least. He stared at the picture for a while and initially blew me off but I can’t be shaken that easily. You see I know the type of work that Wayne and his guys do. They did custom cabinets in my Mom’s basement apartment at our home, in our basement bar, and in our wine room. Everything was impeccable, with fine craftsmanship. So even though I knew this was outside of

When we brought our home the basement was unfinished. We always knew that we would eventually finish it and use it as an entertaining space and gaming area. With just about 1800 square feet to work with, the possibilities of what we were able to do were endless. However, leave it to life to alter your plans. After my father died and we asked my Mom to move in with us, we dedicated more than half of the basement space to making her an in-law suite, complete with a kitchenette, en-suite bath, and living room area on her side of the basement. In the remaining part of the space, we decided that we still wanted to use it to entertain so we added a bar, an open area where we could add a pool table, a sitting area, a game area for kids, and a half bath. Before the walls went up during construction, I told our builder that I didn't want the space under the stairs to go to waste. I wanted to maximize the

Ok friends, Spring is out here Sprangin' and making room for Summer. That means that very soon we will be living our best outdoor life. With the addition of the new pool, our outdoor experience has been taken up a notch, which means that we have a need for some new patio and pool pieces. The politically correct term for all that is, mo' money, mo' money, mo' money! As someone who likes to get the biggest bang for her buck and stans for a good deal, I'm going to have to slap you over the head with this not-so-fun fact. Good outdoor furniture will not be cheap and if it is, it isn't likely to last.  Full disclosure; I purchased an outdoor sofa two years ago. While searching, I was shocked at how expensive they were, so when I came across one that was considerably cheaper than what I had been seeing, I figured either fate or a good sale or both had shown up on my doorstep. Either way, it was in my

As the saying goes when one door closes another opens and that was both actual and factual, while my home was being built. While choosing a front door, I just wasn't impressed with the styles I was being shown, within the allotted measurements provided by my builders. When I told them as much, they asked if I saw anything that I did like and I had but it was much bigger than the specifications given. My builder yelled, YOLO! (You only live once) Let's do the bigger door! Ok, so she didn't actually say "YOLO", that's just how I interpreted it though but they did make the modifications for my oversized 8-foot door, with built-in screen and there was no additional cost for it. Hooray! As it goes though, no good deed goes unpunished, at least not for my builders in this case because I started thinking of ways that I could improve and or change other doors within the house. The primary bedroom was originally slated to have french doors but instead, I opted to

Last week I did a blog on 7 Ways I Made my Bedroom Feel Like a Luxurious Hotel Suite. However, when I was going through the photos that I wanted to add, I noticed that the one thing I hadn’t spent any time or effort on, was the the built in bookcase in my bedroom. Seeing it in photos, really emphasized how truly naked and unappealing it was. The real kicker is that I actually brought items for the shelves months ago but I’ve been so consumed with holiday decorations, that I never got around to the bookcase. I also wanted to take the time and use fabric to cover some books I purchased from Goodwill to add to the aesthetic. I thought that project would be too time consuming so I kept putting it off but honestly it only took me a couple of hours to complete and the look was beautiful. Here are a few ideas to help you jazz up your bookcase or shelves a bit. 1. Use Varying Heights I tried to use a high low effect
