Eb Lou – Mama 'N Chief

As parents, we can all relate to the struggle of screen time for our kids. Determining how long I allow Chiefton to use his devices, in addition to what content and platforms are appropriate for his young impressionable mind, are always huge concerns for me. When I came across the podcast, The Adventures of Cairo, I listened to a few episodes by myself and was excited to share the podcast with Chief. I was immediately drawn in by the cover art, which shows 7-year-old Cairo front and center with his family behind him. This proves to be the actual premise of the podcast. A young man facing experiences in life, backed by the love and support of his parents and older brother. A beautiful family unit. I loved that Cairo looked like Chief. I am a firm believer that representation matters, especially for African American children but more specifically African American boys. There are quite a few diverse female characters that little girls can look up to or relate to but that seems to be few

We’ve all been there. We did it. We are wrong. We are sorry. However, the person or people who you’ve wronged are not willing to accept your apology. It takes a lot of maturity to admit when you’ve done something wrong and then to say I’m sorry. It also takes a level of maturity to be forgiving. Depending on what actually happened you may not ever get that forgiveness but when you do your best to correct your wrongs, it’s no longer your cross to bear. It’s left with the person to accept you putting your best foot forward in their time. If you find yourself in a predicament where you’ve tried to apologize but someone is not receptive, try these 3 things to help to alleviate the situation. Put your apology on paper. That’s right. Write them a letter. Not a text, a letter. Start by expressing how you feel about them and why they have a place in your life and heart. Clearly if you continuously try to tell someone you’re sorry, it’s

Hey guys. Sundays are the perfect time to do a reset for the week. This includes, a good refresh on your bed/mattress. Though we wash our sheets every Sunday, I like to do this bed refresh at least once a month. We all know that our beds are where we spend a good portion of our lives, so it’s only natural that it’s going to accumulate a good amount of  debris from skin, hair, nails, dust, sweat, etc… Of course we can’t just throw our mattress in the wash like sheets but there is a way you can provide your bed with a deep clean with one simple household tool. Baking soda! Using baking soda on your mattress is a great way to kill bacteria and rid it of dust mites.  I start off by vacuuming the mattress to get rid of any hair, skin, etc… Sprinkle the mattress with about 1 cup of baking soda and massage it in. My son has never wet the bed but if you do have a little that does, baking soda works

Happy New Year! I know that we are well into the new year but it’s been a minute since I’ve been here on the blog and I just want to welcome y’all in appropriately. So let me start by saying, it’s been a really crazy time for me, hence the long pause on blog posts but with grad school, being injured at work and the subsequent doctor visits and physical therapy appointments, I have been busy! However, I’m trying to get back in the swing of things and resume a regular posting schedule. This year I’m committed to doing more for me and stepping outside of my comfort zone. With that being said, a new bold hair color and change to my look was on my to-do list. Now while I love having color in my natural hair, specifically platinum blonde, the bleach just wreaks havoc on my scalp. I mean like literal burns and scabs that take a long time to heal. My scalp has always been super sensitive to chemicals hence me going natural, so I

Hey Friends! Here we are, first day of October and everyone is inevitably asking the question, “where did the year go?” October feels like the month that you really have to start packing up those summer clothes and turning your closet over for cooler temperatures. I actually enjoy being able to wear my knits and chunky cardigans. Surprisingly, I have not purchased very many new fall clothes because I’m still heavily stocked from last year when we were relatively new to pandemic life. As I start to turn over my closet for the season, I came across these knit pieces that bring me joy, so I decided to share them with you. Some of my faves were no longer available or were on backorder but I hope that you will find the pieces that you like, in stock.   This J. Crew Factory pullover crew neck sweater comes in a variety of fun colors and is light enough for layering. J. Crew Crewneck Sweater This skirt is so vibrant in person. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s currently on backorder but
