July 2020 – Mama 'N Chief

Today marks the end of the Mattie James  Consistency Challenge, that I've been participating in since July 6. During the challenge I successfully, wrote one blog post per weekday, for the entire month. While I met the requirements of the challenge, I have lost hair, eyebrows and edges, trying to keep up. If you've never blogged before, then let me be the first to share with you, that it is not easy. Not only do you have to provide your readers with relevant content but there has to be visuals, in the form of photos you take or stock photos, proofreading, editing and promotion, so that people will actually read your work. Prior to the challenge, I had fallen off from blogging because it really wasn't what I expected when I started. I thought I would write, people would love it, I'd make lots of money, like other successful bloggers and I'd be an instant hit! Yeah, no. That's not even close to how it went. I am still seeking out my audience, still trying to find

Well friends, if you didn't think I was a bit crazy before, you can certainly confirm it now because Jermaine and I are undertaking not one but two renovation projects in our home, simultaneously. We are currently in the process of finishing our basement and building a pool. Our level of excitement for both to be completed probably matches the level of noise taking place both inside and outside. As I write this post, in my office/craft room, Jermaine has left his home office on the main level, to come upstairs, to my office, to finish his conference call because the drilling is off the chain. Oh and did I mention, now Chief is here, doing cartwheels and high kicks and whatever it is that only children do, to keep themselves busy. Fun times at Ridgemont High over here. It's been just 3 short years since we moved into our home, that we built from the ground up and from which, we gained a great deal of experience on the in's and out's of construction and

This week, Chiefton and I got the opportunity to visit The Fernbank Museum in Atlanta for the first time. I won some passes during an auction at his school last year. Though the passes expired in May, they were still honoring them, due to Covid. It was a bit of an impromptu decision really. I just woke up and felt like we needed something different to do, so him and I got dressed and headed to downtown Atlanta for our day trip. The first thing I noticed upon entering the parking lot was the place was really empty, which made me happy. I tried to arrive as close to opening as possible, with that hope that we wouldn't have to deal and interact with too many people. My wish was granted. I didn't tell Chiefton where we were going, so when he saw the dinosaurs at the entrance, he was ecstatic. When we walked into the lobby, it was literally a ghost town. As we walked in, Chiefton was pleasantly surprised by the ginormous dinosaur fossil sculptures,

To my husband and my best friend Kaja, if we ever went on a "know your partner" game show and they asked, what is Eb Lou's favorite thing to wear and you don't answer, a flowy top, preferably a kimono with a matching bottom, then we will need to go our separate ways. [caption id="attachment_2400" align="alignleft" width="1947"] Sold out 2 piece from Pretty Little Thing.[/caption] Seriously, anyone who knows me, should know that I have a love for matching co-ordinate sets aka co-ords. They truly take the guesswork out of getting dressed, particularly in the summer time. I don't know about you but I prefer the livin' to be easy when the weather gets warmer. [caption id="attachment_2398" align="alignleft" width="1903"] Sold out Short set from ASOS.[/caption] Co-ord sets are not only great for everyday lounge outfits but work great for travel and vacation as well. so here are a few of my fave co-ord looks and links to where you can purchase some sets, that I have and also some cute similar items. For the record, I am 5'8 and

Funny story alert. When we first built our home, I walked into Ethan Allen furniture store, looking for a couch. I had never been in an Ethan Allen and quickly realized this was a very upscale establishment. After speaking with a sales woman for a few minutes, I was bamboozled into an in home window treatment consultation. The nice lady came a week later and measured windows in only 3 rooms. We chose samples and decided on a combination of roman shades for some rooms with an accompaniment of drapes in others. A few days passed and she sent me a quote for the 3 rooms. It was $11,000. Needless to say, Ethan Allen did not provide window treatments in my home and the windows continue to be naked, to this day. Item #1,056 of things that I wish I knew before building a home:  window treatments are bloody expensive! I'm not British but "bloody" was the best word I can think of, to replace what I really want to say. With over 30 windows in
