The Skinny on how I Lost 10 Pounds in 10 Days
Weight. The one word I can say, truly gets on my nerves. My weight has fluctuated tremendously since having Chief. The goal that has always been constant is to get under 200lbs, which is the catalyst to getting to my true goal which is 175lbs. I’ve been close to 200lbs but I tend to let my love for food push me away from the target. I love my carbs and sweet tea and sweets and all the things that make life grand.
I feel such joy when I’m able to eat the way I want to but in turn, the results of that, which is packing on the pounds, make me sad. What an ironic correlation. What I figured out, is finding a balance between the two will keep me satisfied on both fronts.
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned in my post on New Beginnings that I wanted to take control of my health and weight, so the kickstart of my effort was an old faithful. I followed JJ Smith’s 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse and used her daily recipes to make delicious green smoothies. Now I know you may be thinking, delicious? How delicious? They are good enough to survive 10 days sans a real meal and there are options for healthy snacks in moderation, as well as a modified version, that allows you to have a meal for lunch or dinner.
Now some days will be better than others, as far as the taste of the smoothies and your mental wherewithal. If lived alone, I could probably knock this out of the park with no problem. However, as a Mom, I still had to prepare food for the kid and I can’t tell you how mouth-watering a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is when you’re drinking spinach and kale.
Yet and still, I remained steadfast and chose to remember my why. I want to see 199 on my scale and go from there onto goal 2 which is 175lbs. When I started the cleanse, I was 226.6lbs. I didn’t capture that scale weight because I didn’t think that I would share my weight with the masses. Then I thought, this may actually help or inspire someone else, so what the heck, here we go. I am 5’8 and my starting weight was 226.4 on day 1.
(My scale is actually a travel scale that I would take with me while working but I love it and it’s accurate so no judging my big dogs feet on that little scale. )
As you can see, the proof is in the pudding. It works if you work it! Now I have to do the follow-up work because I literally lose these same 10 lbs, quarterly. I came up with a plan this time. I am going to stick with the green smoothies and healthy snacks for another 10 days. On Saturday’s Jermaine and I will have a “cheat meal,” which will probably consist of seafood and resume on Sunday. I will keep this routine until I get to one-derland (199) and then continue with the modified plan until the entire goal is met. We are still walking in the mornings but our schedule has been affected by Chief’s virtual schooling, so we will start going in the evenings. I just don’t want to walk my neighborhood when it’s dark because lions and tigers and bears, oh my! It’s a real live animal kingdom here, so we walk in daylight only.
Let me add, I changed the recipes for the daily smoothies by adding Splenda instead of the suggested Stevia because Stevia for me is just ehhhh. I can not tolerate the taste. If you prefer Splenda, I used that with no real impact on my weight loss. Also, remember that much of what you lose in these first 10 days is water weight, so don’t get discouraged if your numbers aren’t dropping rapidly. The consistency is what will lead you to success. (This is actually me pep talking myself) If you’re interested in purchasing the book it can be found here, another Fab Amazon Find, friends. Try it. What’ve you got to lose? It will be so beautiful. (If you read that how I said it, you are truly my people.)
Should you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I’ll be glad to answer. After all, a girl who shows you her scale will show you the world right? I actually have no idea what that means exactly but I’m an open book, ask away.
